2007 National Register Designations

The Fort, near Morrison

Officially designated in 2006, The Fort is a replica of Bent's Fort built south of Morrison in 1962-63. Samuel P. Arnold used 80,000 traditional Hispanic adobe bricks of local stone to recreate this authentic fur trading post inspired by the original on the Santa Fe Trail in Otero County. It has been used as a family residence and continues in use today as a restaurant offering traditional western fare.
